How to Play

Chess is played on an 8x8 board between two players. White moves first, then players alternate turns. Each piece moves differently: pawns advance forward and capture diagonally, rooks move in straight lines, bishops move diagonally, knights jump in an L-shape, the queen combines rook and bishop movement, and the king moves one square in any direction. The goal is to checkmate your opponent's king — placing it under attack with no escape. Special moves include castling (moving king and rook simultaneously), en passant (capturing a pawn that just advanced two squares), and pawn promotion (replacing a pawn that reaches the far rank with any piece). On PlayMore.gg, find an opponent via matchmaking, choose your time control, and play in real time.

About Chess

Chess is one of the oldest and most strategic board games in history, dating back over 1,500 years. It tests pattern recognition, calculation, and long-term planning. On PlayMore.gg, you can play rated games with Bullet (1-2 min), Blitz (3-5 min), and Rapid (10-15 min) time controls. Your ELO rating adjusts after each game based on the result and your opponent's strength. The game features a full implementation with legal move highlighting, drag-and-drop piece movement, real-time chess clocks, draw offers, and resignation. Challenge friends directly or find random opponents through the matchmaking queue.

Scoring

Chess on PlayMore.gg uses an ELO rating system starting at 1200. Win against a higher-rated player for a bigger rating boost. Losses against lower-rated opponents cost more points. Draws split the difference. The K-factor is 32 for your first 30 games (faster calibration) and 16 afterward (more stable). Track your rating, wins, losses, and draws on your profile. Climb the chess leaderboard by consistently beating strong opponents.
